ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S LACROSSE Elizabethtown Defeats Drew for First Time in Program History, 15-8, Blue Jays Tie Season Win Record ELIZABETHTOWN , Pa. --- Elizabethtown has tied its season win record before the end of March. The Blue Jays defeated Middle Atlantic Conference rival Drew University 15-8 at home Saturday to improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. It was also Elizabethtown’s first win ever against Drew, which entered the game 5-0 all-time against Etown. Drew dropped to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the MAC with the loss. Elizabethtown took a 3-0 lead over the course of the first nine mintues, as Katie Caprinolo (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) scored the first goal at 26:11, and Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) followed with a goal a 25:29. Caprinolo scored again off a Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) assist at 21:27. Drew responded with four unanswered goals over the next nine minutes to take a 4-3 lead, as Morgan Kenney (Scituate, MA/Loomis Chafee) scored twice, and Courtney Cunningham (Garden City, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) and Alexandra Bailly (Albany, NY/Acad. Of the Holy Names) each scored a goal. Elizabethtown tied the game 4-4 at 10:33 when Anna Ford (Salisbury, MD/homeschooled) scored off a Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/ Towson) assist. Drew went up 5-4 with 1:37 left in the first half when Cunningham scored. Elizabethtown tied the game again, 5-5, as time expired at the end of the first half when Kozak scored off another Byrnes assist. Elizabethtown began the second half with three unanswered goals. Kreis scored at 27:39, and Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) scored a pair of goals at 24:47 and at 23:44. Drew cut the gap to 8-6 as Cunningham scored again at 18:53, and Elizabethtown went up 9-6 at 18:18 as Ford scored off a Caprinolo assist. Elizabethtown got its fourth card of the game at 17:40 and had to play man-down for the next three minutes. A fifth cared at 13:47 resulted in another three-minute man-down period for Etown, but the Blue Jays were able to prevent Drew from scoring in that span. Drew cut Elizabethtown’s lead to 9-7 when Cunningham scored again with 9:30 left. Beginning at 7:48, an Elizabethtown scoring barrage put Drew away. Caprinolo scored off a Sarah Gilson (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) assist then to put the Blue Jays ahead 10-7. At 7:01, Foley scored off an Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield) assist, and Byrnes scored off another Gilson feed at 6:40 to put the Blue Jays ahead 12-7. With 2:46 left, Byrnes scored again off an assist from Foley, and Kozak scored at 1:45. With 1:18 left, Caprinolo scored on an eight-meter shot as Etown went up 15-7. The final goal of the game came from Drew’s Alex Weber Reitz with 58 second remaining on the clock. Caprinolo finished the game with four goals and one assist for Etown, and Foley had three goals and one assist. Byrnes scored twice and had two assists, and Kozak had two goals and one assist. Ford and Kreis each scored twice for the Blue Jays, and Gilson finished with two assists. Sangrey had one assist for Etown. Foley led Etown in caused turnovers with four and in ground balls with four, and Ford, Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) and Kreis each led Etown in draw controls with three apiece. Elizabethtown goaltender Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) made 14 saves, including nine in the second half, and had one ground ball. Cunningham was Drew’s top scorer with four goals and one assist, while Kenny had two goals, one assist and team-best totals of six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Bailly finished the game with one goal and two assists, and Weber Reitz had one goal and one assist for Drew.
