#16 Dickinson Edges Blue Jays in Double Overtime

CARLISLE, Pa. --- Kate Sanford scored with 1:47 left in double overtime to give 16th-ranked Dickinson College a 9-8 victory over Elizabethtown College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Friday afternoon.

The goal capped a back-and-forth contest, in which the teams were tied six times and neither led by more than one goal for the final 54 minutes.

Alysa Crellin led the Red Devils (7-3 overall) with four goals while Amy Jennings added two goals and an assist for Dickinson, which trailed 2-0 after just three minutes, 19 seconds.

Sophomore Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) led the Blue Jays (4-4 overall) with four goals while junior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) tallied twice for Elizabethtown, which was seeking its second win over a ranked opponent this season.

The Blue Jays took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Kreis and sophomore Alisha Sangrey (Columbia, PA/Hempfield), and went ahead 3-1 on a tally by sophomore Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) with 16:51 left int he first half.

Dickinson rallied to take a 4-3 lead with 26:03 left in the second half, but goals from Kreis and Foley put the Blue Jays on top 5-4 with 14:58 to go. The teams alternated goals for the rest of the half, with Crellin scoring her fourth of the game with 2:47 remaining to force overtime.

Both teams scored in the first six-minute overtime period, as a goal from Dickinson's Amy Jennings with 3:17 left was answered by Foley with 1:06 remaining to send the contest to sudden death.

The Blue Jays had two shots on goal in the sudden-death period but could not score, and Sanford netted the winner with 4:13 elapsed to give the Red Devils the victory.

Kreis led the Blue Jays with five ground balls, while junior Danielle Schaffer (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) picked up three ground balls and caused four turnovers for the Blue Jays. Lexie Kob came up with four ground balls for the Red Devils, and Abby Larson caused four turnovers and shared the team lead with Crellin with four draw controls.

Both teams finished with 38 shots, with Elizabethtown junior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) making 15 saves and Jessie Clark tallying 16 stops for Dickinson.
