ETOWN REBOUNDS TO DEFEAT NYU, 31-19, AFTER FALLING TO KING'S, 39-10

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown's record stands at 3-10 overall following a 1-1 showing at a home triangular match against King's and New York University. The Blue Jays lost to King's in their first match, 39-10, but came back to defeat NYU, 31-19, in their second. Etown 125-pounder Bill Van Winkle (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) also went 1-1 for the day, making his career record 99-28. Van Winkle will have to wait until Friday for his next shot at becoming only the fifth Etown wrestler to reach the 100 career win plateau.

Van Winkle's loss came to King's Mitchell Marcks in a close 1-0 match that was decided entirely by riding time. Etown's three wins against King's came from freshman 149-pounder Brian Alwine (Hanover, PA/South Western), who won a 14-0 major decision, Art Mattes (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) with a 11-5 decision at 197 lbs., and heavyweight Josh Boyer (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic), who captured a 2-1 win.

King's defeated NYU 42-6 in the day's second match.
Etown roared out of the starting gate against NYU, as Van Winkle took an 18-6 major decision victory to give Etown a 4-0 lead. Eric Boyle (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East) pinned NYU's Taysjun Stephany in 4:54 at 133 pounds. Mattes won an 11-5 decision at 197 pounds to put the match away.

Etown returns to action at home Friday with a match against Middle Atlantic Conference powerhouse Delaware Valley. The match begins at 7:30 p.m., as Van Winkle will try again to reach the century mark.
