ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell to 0-5 in dual match competition at home Friday with a 34-17 loss to Lycoming, ranked ninth in the nation. Lycoming improves to 3-2 in dual matches with the victory.
The match began at 157 pounds, and the Warriors jumped out to a 24-0 lead with three pins and a forfeit win. The Blue Jays fought back at 197 lbs., as Art Mattes (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) picked up a 13-0 major decision win. A pin by Etown's Josh Boyer (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) at 5:54 at heavyweight made the score 24-10.
The Blue Jays Bill Van Winkle (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) won a 12-2 major decision at 125 lbs., and Sam Lannigan (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) won a 5-4 decision at 133 lbs. to make the score 24-17. That was as close as Etown would get, as the Blue Jays again forfeited at 141 lbs., and Lycoming took a major decision win at 149 lbs. to conclude the match.
Etown returns to action following a long break at home against Messiah Saturday, January 20. Match time is 7:00 p.m.
