Etown Falls in Three Matches at Budd Whitehill Division III Duals at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Elizabethtown participated in its first scored dual matches of the 2001-02 season in the opening rounds of the 14th annual Budd Whitehill Division III Duals at Lycoming College. In the first semester of the school year, injuries had made Elizabethtown unable to field wrestlers in enough weight classes to make dual match results official.

In its first match of the day, Elizabethtown fell to number one seeded College of New Jersey, which is currently ranked fourth in the nation, in the first round of the tournament, 47-3. Etown's lone winner was Sam Lannigan (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), who defeated TCNJ's Nikolas Vrettos in a 4-0 decision at 133 pounds.

Baldwin-Wallace defeated Elizabethtown 42-12 in the Blue Jays' second match of the day. Lannigan won again at 133 pounds on a 5-4 decision, and Josh Miller (Indiana, PA/Indiana) won a 3-1 decision at 141 pounds for Etown.

In Elizabethtown's final match of the day and of the Duals, Scranton defeated Etown 37-17 in the Challenge Round. 125-pounder Eric Boyle (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East) won on a pin, Lannigan won at 133 lbs. on a technical fall, and Matt Frailey (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) won on a pin at heavyweight for the Blue Jays.

The Division III Duals will conclude Saturday, January 12.
