Etown Wins First Match Since 2001 with 32-6 Win over Gallaudet at McDaniel Invitational; Etown Starts Season 1-3

WESTMINSTER, Md. --- Elizabethtown's winless drought is over. The Blue Jays, which last won a dual match February 10, 2001, defeated Gallaudet 32-6 in their second match of both the McDaniel Invitational and the 2003-04 season Saturday. They accomplished the feat despite having just the minimum of six healthy wrestlers for the day. In the first match, Etown lost 54-0 to Newport News Apprentice. Etown fell to McDaniel 45-9 in its third match of the day and lost 34-20 to Albright in its fourth and final match.

Gallaudet got off to a 6-0 lead with an Etown forfeit at 125 points, but those were the only points that Gallaudet would score the entire match. Tom Elicker (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) got a forfeit win at 133 pounds for Etown, and following no contest at 141 pounds, Rob Bozart (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) picked up his first collegiate win at 149 pounds, a 17-8 major decision. Wayne Hummer (Lititz, PA/Warwick) got his first collegiate win for the Blue Jays on a 15-0 technical fall at 157 pounds. The score at the conclusion of Hummer's bout was initially 14-0, but he earned an extra point due to the amount of riding time he accumulated during the bout, and that extra point pushed the result from being a major decision to a technical fall.

Vinny Camacho (Harrison, NY/Harrison) followed with a win on a pin that took just 44 seconds to complete at 165 pounds. John Garganta (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury) picked up a forfeit victory for his first collegiate win at 174 pounds, and Matt Freeborn (Wyalusing, PA/Northeast Bradford) got his first collegiate win at 184 pounds for Etown on an 18-2 technical fall that took 4:02 to complete.

Against McDaniel, Bozart scored a 7-5 double overtime win at 157 pounds, and Freeborn won on a pin in 2:10 at 184 pounds.

Facing Albright, Etown was immediately disadvantaged by having to surrender 24 points on four forfeits. In the matches that were contested, the Blue Jays were more than competitive against their Middle Atlantic Conference foes. Hummer won on a major decision at 149 pounds, 16-4. Bozart followed with a 9-0 major decision at 157 pounds. At 174 pounds, Camacho picked up his second pin of the day, winning in 4:12, and Freeborn won on his second pin of the day as well at 184 pounds for the Blue Jays in 2:54.

Elizabethtown will return to action at the King's Invitational Saturday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m.
