Etown Defeats MAC Rival Albright 31-12
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College won its home opener over Middle Atlantic Conference rival Albright College 31-12 Tuesday night to improve to 2-2 in dual matches in 2005-06. It was Etown’s first dual match win against a team from the MAC since January 30, 2001. Albright drops to 1-3 in dual matches with the loss.
The match began with Albright forfeiting at 125 pounds. At 133 pounds, Etown first year student Steve Meckley (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) pinned Albright’s Michael Goon 2:12 into the bout to put the Blue Jays ahead 12-0.
Albright got on the scoreboard at 141 pounds as Wade Ginter won a 13-7 decision over Justin Martin (Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) of Etown. At 149 pounds, first-year student Jereme Heisey (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) won a 15-5 major decision for Etown over Ryan Santry to put the Blue Jays ahead 16-3.
Etown went up 28-3 as Albright forfeited the 157 and 165 pound weight classes. Albright’s Esrom Montesino won a 9-7 decision in overtime against R.J. Mount (Pine Brook, NJ/Montville Twp.) of Etown to cut the Blue Jays’ lead to 28-6. No bout was contested at 184 pounds.
At 197 pounds, James Campolongo (Cincinnati, OH/Oakhill) won an 8-3 decision over John Radel of Albright to boost Etown’s point total to 31. Erik Murphy of Albright won the night’s final match at heavyweight with a pin in 0:25 over Ezra Schatz (Elliotsburg, PA/West Perry).
Elizabethtown will return to action Saturday, November 19 at the Ursinus College Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
