VAN WINKLE AND FIERRO POST EARLY PINS TO LEAD ETOWN OVER SCRANTON, 36-15; JAYS CLOSE REGULAR SEASON WITH 14-8 MARK

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Bill Van Winkle recorded his team-best 11th pin of the season and Mike Fierro  also won by fall to lead Elizabethtown past Scranton, 36-15, in Middle Atlantic Conference dual action on Saturday.  With the win, the Blue Jays wrapped up their regular season with a 14-8 record.

Van Winkle, a national qualifier in 1998, opened the match at 125 by pinning Scranton's Seamus Dugan in a time of 1:58.  After John Cavey picked up a decision for the Royals at 133 and Blue Jay Mike King outpointed Kevin Murray 10-3 at 141, Fierro gave Etown a 15-3 lead by pinning Matt Borella at 149.

Scranton won forfeits at 157 and 165, but the Blue Jays picked up forfeit wins at 174, 184 and 197 to take an insurmountable 33-15 lead.  Etown heavyweight Ryan Sellars edged Bill Hanni, 2-0, in the night's final bout to close out the victory.

With the regular season behind them, the Blue Jay wrestlers will compete at the MAC championships on Saturday, February 20 at Messiah College.
