ETOWN FINISHES FOURTH AT VIRGINIA DUALS FOLLOWING 26-13 WIN OVER UNC-PEMBROKE AND 29-17 LOSS TO YORK

HAMPTON, Va. --- Elizabethtown finished fourth in the small college division of the 2000 Virginia Duals tournament after winning a match over UNC-Pembroke Saturday morning and falling to York College in the evening. Elizabethtown (6-3) also split its results Friday, defeating Newport News Apprentice and losing to Anderson.

UNC-Pembroke won only three weight classes as Elizabethtown won by a score of 26-13. Eric Snavely (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) won at 141 lbs. for Elizabethtown on a fall at 3:22. Mike Fierro (Bethlehem, PA/Parkland) had a 16-1 technical fall victory at 149 lbs.

The Blue Jays lost 29-17 to York in the third place match Saturday evening. Bill VanWinkle (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) won at 125 lbs. for Etown on a fall at 1:31. Snavely and Art Mattes (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) won on major decisions at 141 and 197 lbs., respectively, by respective scores of 13-3 and 12-3.

Etown will travel to Gettysburg to face the Bullets and SUNY-Oneonta Tuesday, January 11. Match time is 5:00 p.m.
