WADE'S GOAL GIVES ETOWN 1-0 VICTORY OVER DREW IN MAC CHAMPIONSHIP; JAYS WIN SECOND CONFERENCE TITLE IN THREE YEARS ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown captured is second Middle Atlantic Conference championship in the past three years with a 1-0 victory over Drew on Saturday. With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 11-8-1 on the season and avenged a 1-0 loss to the Rangers in last season's MAC championship game. Kristy Wade scored in the 21st minute off a pass from Denise Gordon to give Etown all the offense it would need. Jen Helsel also picked up an assist on the gamewinning goal, Wade's program-record 22nd of the season. The junior forward also scored 22 goals during the 1997 campaign. Etown goalie Bethann Rumpp needed only
one save to post her second straight shutout of the MAC playoffs.
The Blue Jay defense held the Rangers (13-5-3) to four shots on afternoon
while extending its own postseason shutout streak to 506 minutes.
Etown last allowed a postseason goal in a 2-1 win over the College of
New Jersey during the 1997 NCAA tournament.
