ETOWN'S SEASON ENDS WITH 4-1 LOSS TO COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY IN NCAA REGIONAL SEMIFINALS POMONA, N.J. --- The College of New Jersey scored three unanswered second-half goals to defeat Elizabethtown, 4-1, in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional semifinals on Saturday at Richard Stockton (N.J.) College. With the loss, the Blue Jays wrapped up their 1998 campaign with a 12-9-1 record. Christy Callahan scored the lone goal for Etown, which lost for the first time in seven NCAA tournament games. The Blue Jays went 4-0-1 in last year's tournament and defeated Johns Hopkins in a first-round contest this season. Callahan's goal found the net directly off a corner kick in the 32nd minute to tie the game at 1-1. Beth Hoeflinger, Christine DeTuro and Traci Tapp all scored goals in a 13-minute span of the second half for the College of New Jersey, which entered the game ranked fifth in Division III. The Lions (16-2-1) advanced to Sunday's regional championship against Richard Stockton, which edged Gettysburg, 2-1, in overtime in the afternoon's first semifinal match. Victoria Nusse made one save in the game's final 45 minutes to pick up the victory for New Jersey. Bethann Rumpp made eight saves in the nets for Etown. Denise Gordon and Rachel Luetke managed the only other shots for the Blue Jays, who were outshot 21-3 on the game.
