Etown Climbs to .500 with 12-1 Blowout of Division II Shepherd, Jessie Cromley Logs Hat Trick

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- It was a happy homecoming for Elizabethtown Saturday as the Blue Jays, playing their first home game in almost a month, blasted NCAA Division II Shepherd College 12-1 to improve to 5-5 overall and reach .500 for the first time this season.

It took Etown just 41 seconds to get on the board against Shepherd (1-8) as Kelly Drumel (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway) scored on a cross pass from Amy Fredrick (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) in the game's opening minute.

By 16 minutes into the game, Etown held a 5-0 lead. Courtney Phillips (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) scored at eight minutes in off another assist from Fredrick. Becca Young (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) scored off a corner kick at 12 minutes with a pair of assists from Drumel and Phillips. At 15 minutes in, Jessie Cromley (New Columbia, PA/Milton) scored the first of three goals on the day off another assist from Drumel. Phillips finished Etown's opening barrage at 16 minutes on a goal off a pass by Eileen Fretz (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame).

Etown added one more goal before halftime as Lindsay Brown's (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) corner kick arced into the Shepherd goal at 35:00.

Etown's attack continued in the second half as Cromley scored her second goal at 52 minutes off assists by Young and Phillips. Cromley completed her hat trick a minute later courtesy of another assist by Young.

Young added her second goal of the game at 55:00 on Phillips' third assist of the game. Becky Wise (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) scored a pair of goals at 75 and 77 minutes off assists from Katierose Riegger (Baltimore, MD/Catholic) and Heather Newswanger (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove). Jeanette Halstead (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) scored Etown's final goal of the game at 85 minutes with an assist by Robin Felix (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern).

Etown lost its shutout bid at 86 minutes when Theresa Ryan (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) scored on a deep shot for Shepherd. Elizabethtown out-shot Shepherd 34-6, and three corner kicks against none for Shepherd.

Elizabethtown will return to action Tuesday, October 1 in its Commonwealth Conference opener at home against Albright. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
