ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Etown Knocks Off #17 Mary Washington, 2-1, in Double Overtime; College of New Jersey Downs Ithaca, 2-1, in Etown Blue Jay Classic ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown got off to a good start to the 2003 season Saturday with a 2-1 double overtime upset win over 17th-ranked Mary Washington in the Blue Jay Classic. In the day's other action, eighth-ranked College of New Jersey defeated Ithaca 2-1. After a scoreless first half, Etown fell behind 1-0 to Mary Washington at 59:16 on a goal by Hannah Slotnick (Juneau, AK/Juneau Douglas) following a barrage of Eagle shots lasting several minutes. The Blue Jays managed to balance out the action later in the second half, and first-year Kelly McCauley (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) tied the score with her first career goal at 76:41. McCauley found the back of the net after a Katierose Riegger (Jarrettsville, MD/Catholic-Baltimore) shot caromed off the crossbar of the goal. The teams battled through a scoreless first overtime period, until Courtney Phillips (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) headed in a ball from Dana Moyer (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) to score the winning goal 3:01 into the second overtime. Etown will return to action on the final day of the Blue Jay Classic Sunday, August 31.
