ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Etown Improves to 2-0 with 1-0 Win over Ithaca, #8 College of New Jersey Downs #17 Mary Washington in Double Overtime in Blue Jay Classic ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown wrapped up its 2003 Blue Jay Classic with a 1-0 win over Ithaca (0-2) to improve to 2-0 in the new season. In Sunday's other Blue Jay Classic game, the eighth-ranked College of New Jersey (2-0) scraped by 17th-ranked Mary Washington (0-2) with a 1-0 double overtime win. Becca Young (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) scored Elizabethtown's lone goal against Ithaca just 4:31 into the game off an assist from Courtney Phillips (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg). Etown goaltender Amy Weid (Turnersville, NJ/Pitman) made three saves to preserve the Blue Jay win and pick up her first shutout of the season. Etown out-shot Ithaca 9-4. A goal by Katie Egan (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) gave the College of New Jersey its narrow victory over Mary Washington just 43 seconds into the second overtime period. The College of New Jersey dominated possession of the ball and fired off 24 shots against three for Mary Washington, but it could not get anything past Mary Washington goalie Kurstin Meehan (Edgartown, MA/Martha's Vineyard Regional) for the first 110 minutes of the game. Elizabethtown will return to action at the Wellesley College Tournament, Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7.
