ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Blue Jays Defeat Wilkes, 5-0 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 9-5-2 overall with a 5-0 home win over Wilkes Saturday. Wilkes dropped to 7-8-2 overall with the non-conference loss. A goal by Keeley Trumbo (Jeffersonville, PA/Great Valley) turned out to be the game-winner at 10:11 after the opening whistle. Megan Halladay (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) scored on a penalty kick set up when Ilana Unger (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was fouled in the box at 41:02 to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. Etown went up 3-0 just five seconds before halftime as Heather Newswanger (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove) dribbled past three Wilkes defenders before firing a pass to Kelly McCauley (Newark, DE/St. Mark's), who drove the ball to the back of the net. Newswanger added a goal of her own off a Jeanette Halstead (Chalfant, PA/Central Bucks West) assist at 50:55, and Robin Szarzynski (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) added the final goal at 73:52 off a Danielle Davies (Sunbury, PA/Sunbury Christian Academy) assist. Amy Weid (Turnersville, NJ/Pitman), Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and Pam Ostroski (York Haven, PA/Red Land) combined in the Etown net for the shutout, with Hinkle and Ostroski each making one save. The Blue Jays out-shot Wilkes 20-3 for the day. Etown will return to action on the road Tuesday, October 28 at Juniata in a 3:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
