ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Elizabethtown Defeats Eastern Connecticut State in 2-1 Comeback Win; Blue Jays Two Wins from 200 All-Time; TCNJ Downs Salisbury 3-0, on Final Day of Blue Jay Classic ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 2-0 overall with a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Eastern Connecticut State University Sunday on the final day of Etown’s annual Blue Jay Classic. The win also gives the Etown women’s soccer program its 198 th all-time victory, two away from the 200 milestone. The victory was also the 147 th for Etown head coach Barry Dohner, who is now in his 12 th season at the helm of the Blue Jays. In the other Blue Jay Classic game Sunday, The College of New Jersey, ranked ninth in the nation, defeated Salisbury University 3-0. Dana DiBruno, Brittny Boyd and Beth Avery scored goals in that game. Facing ECSU, Etown found itself behind 1-0 16:53 into the game after Eliana Handschu scored off a Jenn Orme assist. The Blue Jays, which out-shot ECSU 30-8, held a shots on goal advantage of 13-2, and held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks, were not able get a shot past ECSU goaltenders Allison Sumecki and Megan Gloster until less than 25 minutes were left in the game. At 65:14, Etown first-year student Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) scored her first collegiate goal off an assist by Heather Newswanger (Pine Grove, PA/Pine Grove Area), who managed to pass the ball to Russo while simultaneously smashing into an ECSU defender. The Blue Jays went up 2-1 with just 4:05 remaining on the clock as Keeley Trumbo (Chester Springs, PA/ Great Valley) scored off an Illana Unger (East Brunswick, NJ/ East Brunswick). Sumecki made four saves for Eastern Connecticut, while Gloster made seven saves. Etown goalie Pam Ostroski (York Haven, PA/ Red Land) made one save in the win. Because the Blue Jay Classic does not follow a tournament format, there was no team champion. Etown will return to action on the road Saturday, September 10 at the University of Mary Washington in a 2:30 p.m. game.
