Elizabethtown Blanks Delaware Valley 2-0; Carly Hoskins Scores First Career Goal

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 6-3-1 overall with a 2-0 road win over Delaware Valley College Wednesday. Delaware Valley dropped to 3-8-1 with the loss.

Elizabethtown controlled much of the game, out-shooting Delaware Valley 30-4, holding an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks, and holding a 20-2 edge in shots on goal.

Elizabethtown got on the scoreboard late in the first half when sophomore defender Carly Hoskins (Bangor, PA/Bangor) scored on a penalty kick at 41:31. It was the first goal of Hoskins’ collegiate career. The score remained 1-0 until nearly 11 minutes were left in the game. At 78:16, Kelly McCauley (Newark, DE/St. Mark’s) scored off an assist by Erin Scott (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) to make the score 2-0.

Angela Freeland (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made two saves in the Elizabethtown goal to preserve the shutout. Delaware Valley goalie Emily Joyce stopped 90% of Etown’s shots on goal as she made 18 saves.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Saturday, October 7 in a 4:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game against Moravian College.
