Elizabethtown Outguns Widener 5-2; Brooke Dotterer Gets Second Hat Trick in a Row

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 9-3-1 overall and 4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 5-2 road win over Widener University Saturday. Widener dropped to 9-5-1 overall and 2-3 in the conference with the loss. For the second game in a row, Etown sophomore forward Brooke Dotterer (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) tallied a hat trick.

Elizabethtown jumped out to a 2-0 lead by halftime as Brooke Dotterer (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) scored off an assist by Keeley Trumbo (Phoenixville, PA/Great Valley) 10:00 into the game, and as Dotterer scored off a Dana Moyer (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) assist at the 20 minute mark.

Less than five minutes into the second half, Etown increased its lead to 4-0 when Dotterer scored her third goal of the game unassisted at 48:26, and when Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) scored off assists by Dotterer and Carly Hoskins (Bangor, PA/Bangor) at 49:33. Widener began to mount a comeback later in the second half. At 71:05, Samantha Hand scored the first goal of the game for Widener, and at 73:40, Lauren Hartman’s goal for Widener cut the gap to 4-2. Elizabethtown put the game away at 83:14, when Robin Szarzynski (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) scored off another Hoskins assist.

Elizabethtown out-shot Widener 23-15 over the course of the game and held a 22-9 advantage in shots on goal.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Wednesday, October 18 against Haverford College in a 4:30 p.m. game. It is Elizabethtown’s final non-conference game of the regular season.
