Montclair State Blanks Nazareth 1-0, Elizabethtown Edges Richard Stockton 3-2 in OT During First Round of NCAA Tournament at Etown; Montclair and Etown to Square off in Second Round Sunday at 2:00 p.m. 

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Close games were the order of the day in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament at Elizabethtown College Saturday afternoon and evening. In the first game of the day, Montclair State University (13-6-3) edged Nazareth College (9-7-3) 1-0, and in the second game of the evening, Elizabethtown College (13-4-3) scraped past Richard Stockton College (15-5-3) in overtime 3-2. Montclair State and Elizabethtown advance to face one another in the second round Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Elizabethtown’s Ira R. Herr Field.

The lone goal in the first game came when Montclair State’s Natalia Sisti (Lincoln Park, NJ/DePaul Catholic) scored off a Lara Kaminski (Rahway, NJ/Union Catholic) assist 55:25 into the game. Nazareth actually held an 18-10 advantage in shots over the course of the game, and each team had just one corner kick.

Montclair State goalie Kristin Kuhmann (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) made seven saves in the shutout effort, while Nazareth keeper Shannon Burns (Albany, NY/Colonie) made four saves.

In the second game, Elizabethtown got a pair of goals from Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and one goal from Brooke Dotterer (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) en route to the win. Etown scored early, getting its first goal at 8:20, when Russo got the defensive rebound from a Dotterer shot and drove the ball into the back of the net. Richard Stockton tied the score at 33:41, when Lindsay Roake (Neptune City, NJ/Neptune) scored off assists by Samantha Bean (Manchester, NJ/Manchester Twp.) and Melissa Scully (Gloucester Twp./Highland). Elizabethtown went ahead 2-1 just 47 seconds before halftime when Dotterer scored off an Ellen Parr (Columbia, MD/Atholon) assist.

Richard Stockton tied the score 2-2 during the second half, 66:55 into the game, as Bean scored a goal off a header during a corner kick. From there, the score remained tied 2-2 through the end of regulation time. The deciding goal came 4:13 into overtime, when Russo got hold of a ball knocked around in front of the Richard Stockton net and drove it in. Elizabethtown out-shot Richard Stockton 19-15 over the course of the game and 3-0 in overtime. The host Blue Jays also held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks, including 3-0 in overtime. Dawn Mellen (Warren, NJ/Watchung Hills Regional) made seven saves for Elizabethtown, while Richard Stockton goalie Alex Rogers (Medford, NJ/ Shawnee) made nine saves.
