ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Elizabethtown Tallies Eighth Consecutive Shutout With 3-0 Win over Wesley ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Three first-half goals powered Elizabethtown College to a 3-0 victory over Wesley College in non-conference women's soccer action at Ira R. Herr Field on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Jenny Fromuth (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) scored her sixth goal of the season while first-year students Kelly Fisher (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) and Mallory Murphy (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) added their first career tallies, while the Blue Jay defense posted its eighth consecutive shutout and extended its streak of consecutive scoreless minutes to 758. Elizabethtown (7-1-1 overall) got on the scoreboard just 2:21 into the match as a short pass by sophomore Christina Sheppard (Millville, NJ/Millville) went to Fisher, who fired home the game's opening goal. Fromuth pushed the Blue Jay lead to 2-0 at the 13-minute mark when she took a pass from junior Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and extended her team lead in goals with her sixth of the year.
Murphy finished off the scoring with 9:36 left in the first half when she picked up the rebound of a shot by junior Jordan Leggett (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) and found the open net to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead. Elizabethtown held a 19-2 edge in shots over the Wolverines (7-3-0 overall) and took all nine corner kicks in the match. First-year student Lindsey Butler (Salem, NJ/Woodstown) made two saves to capture her second shutout of the season for the Blue Jays, while Brittany Block made seven stops for Wesley.
