ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Elizabethtown Sets School Record With 11th Straight Win, Defeating Albright 4-0 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team set a school record with its 11th consecutive victory as the Blue Jays defeated Albright College 4-0 in Commonwealth Conference action on Thursday evening at Ira R. Herr Field.
The 18th-ranked Blue Jays (16-1-1 overall, 4-0-0 Commonwealth) broke the school record of 10 straight wins set twice previously, and extended the school mark for consecutive games without a loss to 17. Etown also posted its 15th shutout of the season to tie the school record set in 1997. Junior Brooke Dotterer (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) finished with a goal and an assist, while junior Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) notched a pair of assists for the Blue Jays, who earned their eighth consecutive home shutout win.
Elizabethtown went ahead 1-0 with 11:30 elapsed in the contest as Dotterer scored her ninth goal of the year and fifth game-winner off assists by Russo and senior Jamie Alvanitakis (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove). Sophomore Erin Scott (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan) extended the Blue Jay lead to 2-0 at 30:32 with her fourth goal of the season on a cross by Dotterer. The duo connected for an identical goal in Etown's 1-0 win over Widener University on Saturday afternoon. In the second half, sophomore Christina Sheppard (Millville, NJ/Millville) tallied her first goal of the season at 47:26 off a crossing pass by Russo, and first-year student Paige Minka (Avondale, PA/Kennett) wrapped up the scoring at 71:50 with her second goal of the year on a 30-yard blast. The Blue Jays held a 20-2 edge in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks over the Lions (8-9-1 overall, 1-3-0 Commonwealth). Junior Angela Freeland (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) improved to 10-0-1 on the season for the Blue Jays as she did not make a save to post her eighth shutout of the year, while Jess Schmura made seven stops for the Lions.
