ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Elizabethtown Advances to Commonwealth Conference Women's Soccer Finals with 3-1 Win Over Widener ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Junior Brooke Dotterer (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) scored a goal and added an assist as Elizabethtown College defeated Widener University 3-1 in Commonwealth Conference women's soccer semifinal action at Ira R. Herr Field on Tuesday night.
Senior Jenny Fromuth (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) and junior Jenna Russo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) also scored for the 17th-ranked Blue Jays (17-2-1 overall), who will face Messiah College on the road in Saturday's Commonwealth Conference title game after the Falcons defeated Lebanon Valley in Tuesday's other semifinal game. Caryinna Yenchak scored with 2:36 left for the Pride (14-5-1 overall), who fell to the Blue Jays in the conference semifinals for the second consecutive season. Elizabethtown is seeking its second straight Commonwealth Conference championship and fifth conference title overall. Fromuth gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead at 32:55 when she corralled a loose ball in the box and blasted home her seventh goal of the season. In the second half, Russo tallied her 10th goal of the year when Dotterer intercepted a goal kick and fed Russo for the goal at 56:01 to give Elizabethtown a 2-0 lead. Dotterer capped the scoring at 65:03 with her 10th goal of the season off an assist by sophomore Erin Scott (West Chester, PA/Bishop Shanahan). Yenchak scored her ninth goal of the year for Widener off a pass from Sam Hand. Elizabethtown finished with a 16-5 edge in shots and a 13-4 advantage in corner kicks over Widener. Junior Angela Freeland (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) moved to 11-1-1 on the season for the Blue Jays by making one save, while Alee Gunter finished with five saves for the Pride.
