ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER Messiah Shuts Out Elizabethtown 3-0 to Capture Commonwealth Conference Championship GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Stef Rowe scored a pair of goals to lead Messiah College to a 3-0 victory over Elizabethtown College in the Commonwealth Conference women's soccer championship match on Saturday evening. Emily Cope added a goal for the second-ranked Falcons (19-0-0 overall), who avenged a 1-0 loss to the 17th-ranked Blue Jays in last year's title match. With the victory, Messiah earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs, while Elizabethtown (17-3-1 overall) will await an at-large bid. Rowe opened the scoring at 13:12 with an unassisted goal, and extended the Messiah lead to 2-0 at 56:12 off an assist from tournament Most Valuable Player Avie Fitzgerald. Cope added an insurance goal with 1:51 remaining in the second half with an assist to Rachel Horning. The Falcons held a 22-6 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks over the Blue Jays. Junior Angela Freeland (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) finished with six saves in goal for the Blue Jays, while Brindley Beckwith made four stops for the Falcons.
