Elizabethtown Wins Season Opener 5-4 over Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won its 2005-06 opener by edging the University of Scranton on the road Saturday 5-4.

Etown began the match by winning two of the three doubles contests. At two doubles, Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) won 8-4, and Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) and Ashley McMaster (Sweickley, PA/ Quaker Valley) won 8-1 at three doubles.

Winning three of the six singles matches for Etown were Shapiro 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 at number two, Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 at number five, and Lander 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 at four singles.

Etown will return to action Thursday, September 8 at Susquehanna University in a 3:30 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match.
