ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Blue Jays Blow Out Susquehanna 8-1 in Conference Opener; Kristy Trimbey Closes in on Modern Career Records SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown won its 2005 Commonwealth Conference opener 8-1 over Susquehanna University on the road Thursday evening. The Blue Jays are now 2-0 overall in the 2005-06 season. Susquehanna dropped to 0-3 overall with the loss. The Blue Jays began the match by sweeping doubles competition, with Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Laurelyn Foderaro (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock Mennonite) winning 8-4 at number one, Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) winning 8-1 at number two, and Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) and Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) winning 8-1 at number three. In singles, Etown won number two through number six. Shapiro won 6-3, 6-1 at two singles, Foderaro won 6-0, 6-1 at number three, Yu won 6-0, 6-1 at number four, Lander won 6-1, 6-3 at number five, and Trimbey won 6-4, 6-4 at number six. Trimbey continues to close in on several Elizabethtown modern program career records, kept since the Middle Atlantic Conference realigned and the conference schedule shifted from spring to fall in 1993. She now has 37 career singles wins, three away from the modern record of forty set by Mel Parenteau ’05 last year. The all-time Etown record in singles is held by Jodi Weidman ’91, who won at least fifty singles matches over four years. Trimbey also now has 40 career doubles wins, one away from the record of 41 set by Kara Metzger ’96, which is also the highest known doubles win total at Etown today. Trimbey’s 77 combined career singles and doubles wins puts her two away from the modern record of 79, also set by Metzger and also the highest known total at Etown. The Blue Jays will return to action at home Saturday, September 10 against Meredith College, which is ranked 11 th in the Atlantic South Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
