Elizabethtown Wins 9-0 over Juniata; Kristy Trimbey Passes Modern Doubles, Overall Win Marks

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College’s women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference by defeating Juniata College 9-0 at home Tuesday. Juniata is now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Etown senior Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) passed a pair of modern Elizabethtown career marks in the victory. By winning 8-0 in number two doubles with teammate Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown), and by winning 6-1, 6-3 at number six singles, Trimbey boosted her career win totals to 42 in doubles matches, 81 overall, and 39 in singles matches. The doubles and overall win totals surpass the previous program modern marks of 41 and 79, respectively, set by Kara Metzger ’96. The modern marks are the highest win totals since the Middle Atlantic Conferences realigned women’s tennis season from the spring to the fall in 1993. Trimbey’s singles win total of 39 is just one shy of the modern mark in that category as well, set by Mel Parenteau ’05. The all-time Elizabethtown singles win record is at least 50 victories compiled by Jodi Weidman ’91.

Also gaining a shutout win in doubles for Etown was the number one team of Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Laurelyn Foderaro (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock Mennonite), who won 8-0. Picking up shutouts for Etown in singles included Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) 6-0, 6-0 at number four, and Lander 6-0, 6-0 at number five.

Etown will return to action on the road Saturday, September 17 against Moravian College in a noontime conference match.
