ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Moravian Edges Elizabethtown 5-4 BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown lost a Commonwealth Conference match Saturday for the first time since October 5, 2003. Moravian College, last year’s conference runner-up, edged the Blue Jays 5-4 in Bethlehem. Etown is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Moravian is 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference as well. Etown won two of the three opening doubles matches, as Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Laurelyn Foderaro (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock Mennonite) won 8-1 at number one, and as Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) and Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) won 8-5 at number three. However, Etown won just two of the six succeeding singles matches. The Blue Jays’ wins came at number two, as Shapiro won 6-3, 6-4, and at number five, as Lander won 6-1, 7-5. Two of Moravian’s four singles wins came in three sets, with the match at number six going into a set tiebreaker in the third set. Etown will return to action on the road Monday, September 19 against Franklin & Marshall in a 4:00 p.m. match.
