Etown Shuts Out Albright 9-0 in Conference Match

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 9-0 shutout of Albright College at home Tuesday. Albright dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the conference with the loss.

Etown players blanked Albright in four of the individual matches as well. At number two doubles, Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) won 8-0, and the number three doubles team of Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) won 8-0 as well. At number four singles, Yu won 6-0, 6-0, and Lander won 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles.

Also winning for Etown in doubles was the number one tandem of Laurelyn Foderaro (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock Mennonite) and Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown), who won 8-5. Shapiro posted a 7-5, 6-0 win at number one singles, Foderaro won 6-2, 6-1 at number two singles, and Smith won 6-4, 6-2 at number three singles. Also, at number six, first-year student Ashley McMaster (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) picked up the first singles win of her collegiate career for Etown.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, October 8 in a 2:00 p.m. match against Washington College (Md.).
