ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Etown’s Heather Lander & Kristy Trimbey Win MASCAC #3 Doubles Title LANCASTER, Pa. --- Elizabethtown’s number three flight doubles team of Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) captured the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Association (MASCAC) championship in their flight by defeating a tandem from Moravian College at the Hempfield Sports Complex Tuesday by a pro set score of 8-6. Individual singles and doubles entries from the fourteen teams of the Commowealth Conference and Freedom Conference competed against each other in the MASCAC Championships at Lehigh University Saturday and Sunday, and all but the championship matches of the number two and number three doubles flights were completed then. Lander and Trimbey’s doubles win brings the number of MASCAC individual tennis championships won by Elizabethtown in 2005 to four. Lander, Trimbey and Laurelyn Foderaro (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock Mennonite) had all won individual singles titles at numbers five, six and two, respectively, on Sunday. As a result, the Blue Jays won MASCAC titles in four of the nine flights of the 14-team tournament. Moravian’s Courtney Hall and Margo Kokolus finished as the MASCAC runners-up at number three doubles after falling to Lander and Trimbey. The win boosts the overall career win total of Trimbey, a senior, to a program record of 104. It was also her Etown record 53rd career doubles victory. Elizabethtown will now go on hiatus for the winter, and will resume competition for its 2005-06 season in March, when the team makes its annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. from March 5 to March 11. The Blue Jays’ current dual match record is 11-2 overall, and the team remains the defending champion of the Commonwealth Conference. |
