Elizabethtown Defeats Scranton 8-1 

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 3-0 overall with an 8-1 home win over the University of Scranton, which drops to 1-1 with the loss, Sunday. The match was the make-up of a rained-out contest originally scheduled for September 2.

Elizabethtown swept the three doubles matches to begin the contest, as Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) teamed up for an 8-3 win at number one, Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) won 8-2 at number two, and as Cathie Martinez (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) and Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) won 8-4 at number three.

In singles, Yu blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at number five, and Lander cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six. Shapiro won 6-1, 6-2 at number two, and Swarr won 6-1, 6-3 at number three. At number four, Martinez ground out a 3-6, 6-3, (10-3) comeback win for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Tuesday, September 12 when the Blue Jays travel to Juniata College for a 3:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match.
