Elizabethtown Defeats Grove City 7-2; Heather Lander Breaks Etown Singles Win Record, Ties Etown Combined Win Record 

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 10-1 overall by winning the second of its matches Saturday 7-2 over Grove City College. Against Grove City, Etown senior Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) earned her 58th career singles win, breaking the Elizabethtown career record of 57 singles victories previously held by Jodi Weidman ’91. Lander also booster her combined career singles and doubles win total to 112, tying the program record set last year by Kristy Trimbey ’06. Lander is now 58-7 in her career in singles matches, 54-13 in doubles matches, and 112-20 overall.

Etown swept the three doubles pro sets to begin the match, with Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) winning 8-3 at one, Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) winning 8-6 at two, and Cathie Martinez (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) and Lander winning 8-6 at three.

In singles, Smith won 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 at two, Swarr won 6-3, 6-4 at three, Yu won 6-0, 6-1 at five, and Lander won 6-3, 6-4 at six to break the record.

Elizabethtown will return to action at home Wednesday, October 11 against Dickinson College in a 3:30 p.m. match. It is the makeup of a previously postponed contest.
