ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Blue Jays Edged by Meredith 5-4 in Suspended Match HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- In a match suspended by rain on Tuesday and completed Wednesday morning, the Elizabethtown College women's tennis team lost to Meredith College 5-4 in non-conference action. The teams were tied 4-4 when rain washed out play at fourth singles, and Meredith's Amanda Bitler finished off action with a 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 win over Elizabethtown first-year student Minke Albers (The Hague, The Netherlands). Junior Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) was the lone singles winner for the Blue Jays, picking up a 6-0, 6-7 (8-6), 10-7 tiebreaker victory over Kathryn Maples at third singles. The Avenging Angels (5-2 overall) won five singles matches, including three via the 10-point tiebreaker in place of a third set, while also winning three sets via conventional tiebreaker. In doubles, the Blue Jays (5-2 overall) swept all three flights, as Yu teamed with senior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) for an 8-4 win over Maples and Sydney Williford at flight one, sophomores Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) edged Meredith Roberson and Morgan Martin 9-8 (7-2) at flight two, and Albers teamed with first-year student Kelly Fisher (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) for an 8-6 win over Bitler and Caitlin Dillon at flight three.
