Alice Yu Wins 50th Career Singles Match as Blue Jays Defeat Scranton, 7-2

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Junior Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) became the fifth player in Elizabethtown College women's tennis history to record 50 career singles victories as the Blue Jays defeated the University of Scranton 7-2 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Yu downed Danielle Red 6-0, 6-3 at third singles to improve her career mark to 50-15, joining Heather Lander '07 (68-9), Jodi Weidman '91 (57-11), Kristy Trimbey '06 (55-12) and Stacy Shapiro '07 (54-25) in the 50-win club at Elizabethtown.

Yu, who won the Middle Atlantic Conference third singles title in the fall, is 15-2 on the season and 12-0 in dual matches and has won 14 consecutive matches, losing just one set during the streak.

The Blue Jays (10-2 overall) won their fifth straight match by winning four singles matches and all three doubles pro sets against the Lady Royals (5-4 overall).

In other singles action, senior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) defeated Deirdre Wylie 6-4, 6-2 at second singles, first-year student Minke Albers (The Hague, The Netherlands) downed Danielle Wylie 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles and sophomore Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) beat Caroline Curtin 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles.

In doubles, Smith and Yu won 8-2 over Sarah Costello and Red at flight one, sophomore Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) teamed with Russell for an 8-3 win at flight two over Gretchen Sullivan and Deirdre Wylie, and Albers partnered with first-year student Kelly Fisher (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) for an 8-2 win at flight three over Kelly Costello and Danielle Wylie.
