Blue Jays Close Regular Season With 9-0 Win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's tennis team closed its 2007-08 regular season with a 9-0 victory over Juniata College on Monday afternoon.

At first singles, sophomore Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) defeated Amanda Fontana 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, senior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) downed Maggie Wolenter 6-0, 6-0 at second singles, and junior Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Lauren Perow at third singles.

First-year student Minke Albers (The Hague, The Netherlands) won 6-0, 6-0 over Tiereney Miller at fourth singles, sophomore Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles over Laura Gregory, and first-year student Kelly Fisher (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles over Katie Kline.

In doubles, Smith and Yu defeated Fontana and Wolenter 8-0 at flight one, Swarr and Russell won 8-2 at flight two over Perow and Miller, and Albers and Fisher picked up an 8-1 victory over Gregory and Kline at flight three.

The Blue Jays (12-3 overall) will compete in the Commonwealth Conference team championship match on Sunday at the Hempfield Sports Complex at 10:00 a.m. against the winner of Saturday's playoff match between Lebanon Valley College and Messiah College. The postseason champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
