ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Elizabethtown Clinches First Place in Women's Tennis With 8-1 Win at Messiah GRANTHAM, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College women's tennis team clinched first place in the Commonwealth Conference with an 8-1 victory at Messiah College on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays (4-0 overall, 4-0 Commonwealth) will have the top seed in the Commonwealth Conference team tournament next April, with the winning team earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. Elizabethtown won five of six singles matches against the Falcons (5-6 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth), as sophomore Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) defeated Sadie Sumner 6-4, 6-3 at flight one, senior Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Leah Bradshaw at flight two, and junior Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) won 6-0, 6-0 over Stacey Clark at flight three. At flight four, sophomore Jessica Russell (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Annie Gotchel, and first-year student Minke Albers (The Hague, The Netherlands) won 4-6, 6-2, (10-5) over Erin Kriner at flight five. In doubles, Smith and Yu defeated Sumner and Bradshaw 8-0, Swarr and Russell won 8-0 overa Gotchel and Kriner, and Albers teamed with first-year student Angela Cairns (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) for an 8-6 win over Clark and Laura Miller.
