Etown Entries Fall in First Round of MAC Individual Championships

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown's entries into the 2001 Middle Atlantic Conference individual women's tennis championships at Lebanon Valley College all fell in the first round Friday.

Sasha Fureman (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) lost to Moravian's Becky Deringer 6-0, 6-0, in a 9:00 a.m. match. In a 10:00 a.m. match, Etown's Erin Thompson (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) fell to Katie Kopf of Moravian, 7-6 (3), 6-2.

In doubles competition, Melanie Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Carolina) and Melissa Muller (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) fell to Robyn Sotak and Chris Jessen of Lebanon Valley 6-2, 6-2. Etown's other doubles entry, Ashley McDonald (New Ringgold, PA/Tamaqua) and Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown), fell to fifth-seeded Heidi Von Schwedler and Pamela Zeger of Lycoming, 6-1, 6-0.
