Etown Opens Season with 6-3 Win over DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- Elizabethtown started its 2002 season with a 6-3 road win over DeSales Saturday.

Etown picked up four points in the singles matches, sweeping number three through number six. Melanie Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Carolina) won 6-3, 6-0 at number three, Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) won 6-2, 7-5 at number four, Lisa Mervine (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) won the first singles match of her collegiate career, 6-0, 6-4 at number five, and Katie Derr (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) took number six for Etown, 6-0, 6-2.

Loni Heckler (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) and Parenteau won 8-4 at number two doubles for Etown, and Mervine and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West), won the first match of their collegiate doubles careers for the Blue Jays at number three to round out Etown's scoring.

Etown returns to action in its first home match Wednesday, September 4 against Scranton at 4:00 p.m.
