Blue Jays Bash Goucher, 8-1, to Snap Losing Skid

BALTIMORE, Md. --- Elizabethtown snapped a four match losing streak Wednesday by blasting Goucher on the road, 8-1. Etown is now 3-5 overall with the win, while Goucher falls to 0-2 in 2002.

Erin Thompson (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) won 6-3, 6-0 for Etown at number one singles. Loni Heckler (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win at number two, and Melanie Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Carolina) won 6-0, 6-3 at number three. Etown's number four singles player, Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) won 6-1, 6-2, and Lisa Mervine (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) registered a crushing 6-0, 6-0 win at number five to improve to a team-best 6-2 in singles play in 2002. Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) won 6-1, 6-2 at number six for the Blue Jays.

In doubles, Parenteau and Abel whitewashed their opponents, 8-0, at number two, and Etown's number three team of Mervine and Trimbey won 8-1.

Elizabethtown will return to action Saturday, September 21 on the road against Susquehanna for an 11:00 a.m. match.
