ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Etown Blows Out Widener, 9-0, in Season's Final League Match ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown smashed Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League rival Widener, 9-0, at home Saturday to improve to 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the league. It was Etown's final league match of the season. Widener drops to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in the league with the loss. In singles competition, five of Etown's players won 6-0, 6-0 over their opponents, including Erin Thompson (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) at number one, Loni Heckler (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) at number two, Melanie Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Carolina) at number three, Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) at number four, and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) at number six. Also, number five singles player Lisa Mervine (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) won 6-0, 6-2 for the Blue Jays. In doubles, Thompson and Parenteau teamed up for an 8-1 win at number one, and Abel and Katie Derr (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) posted a 8-0 victory for Etown at number three. Mervine and Trimbey teamed up for a 9-7 win at number two doubles. Etown will return to action on the road Monday, October 7 at Dickinson, for the completion of a match previously halted by darkness at a 4-4 stalemate. The completion of the number five singles match against Dickinson will begin at 4:00 p.m. Etown's match originally scheduled for Monday at home against Lycoming has been postponed until further notice.
