Etown Opens 2003 Season With 6-2 Win Over Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- Elizabethtown opened its 2003 season with a 6-2 road win over the University of Scranton Thursday. One of the matches was not completed after being suspended due to lightning.

Stacy Shapiro (Audobon, PA/Methacton) began her collegiate career in the number one singles slot for Etown and scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory. She teamed with Mel Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Caroline) for an 8-4 doubles victory as well. Parenteau played in the number three singles position for Etown and notched a 6-0, 6-2 win. Lisa Mervine (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) teamed up at number three doubles for Etown and won 8-4, and the pair also won 6-1, 6-2 at number four singles and 7-6 (3), 6-1 at number five singles, respectively, as well.

Etown will return to action as the host of Commonwealth Conference rival Widener Saturday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m.
