Etown Shuts Out Widener, 9-0, in 2003 Home and Conference Opener, Mervine and Trimbey Record Shutout Singles Wins

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Etown won its 2003 home and Commonwealth Conference schedule opener in a 9-0 shutout of Widener Saturday. The Blue Jays improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the win.

Lisa Mervine (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) each won 6-0, 6-0 singles shutouts at number four and number five, respectively. The sophomore duo also logged an 8-2 win at number two doubles for Etown. At number three singles, Mel Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Caroline) won 6-1, 6-0, and she teamed with Stacy Shapiro (Audobon, PA/Methacton), who won a 6-1, 6-3 match at number one singles, to win 8-2 at number one doubles.

At number six singles, Michelle Springer (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) made her collegiate debut for Etown and won a 6-1, 6-1 match.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Tuesday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m. against Goucher.
