Etown Sinks Juniata in Rain Shortened Match, 5-0, Lisa Mervine Picks up Singles Shutout Win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The rain put a halt to Elizabethtown's home match against Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth League rival Juniata Thursday, but not before the Blue Jays were able to take enough matches to make the whole day official.
Etown defeated Juniata 5-0 to improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the league.

The Blue Jays swept the three doubles matches, with Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) winning 8-1 at number one, Mel Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Caroline) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) winning 8-3 at number two, and Lisa Mervine (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) winning 8-2 at number three.

The only two singles matches completed were both in Etown's favor, with Mervine winning a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at number four and Trimbey winning 6-1, 6-0 at number six. All the other Blue Jays held commanding leads in their matches as well when play was halted.

Etown will return to action as the host of NCAA Division I LaSalle Saturday, September 27 at noon.
