ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S TENNIS Etown Improves to 6-0 with 8-1 Win over Messiah ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference Wednesday with an 8-1 home win over Messiah College. Etown is in the midst of its best season-opening winning streak since 1984, when the team won its first nine consecutive matches. Elizabethtown began the match by sweeping doubles competition, with Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) winning 8-6 at number one, Mel Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Caroline) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) teaming up to win 8-4 at number two, and Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) winning 8-5 at number three. Currently, the doubles teams of Parenteau and Trimbey, and Smith and Lander, are both 6-0 on the season. In singles competition, Abel won a 6-1, 6-0 blowout at number four to improve to 4-2, and Shapiro won 6-2, 6-2 for Etown at number one to improve to 6-0 on the season. Lander breezed to a 6-3, 6-2 win at number five to improve to 5-1, and Trimbey won 6-4, 6-4 at number six to improve to 6-0 in singles in 2004. At number three, Smith scored a comeback 5-7, 6-1, (10-6) win to improve to 5-1. The Blue Jays' winning streak will face a strong test Saturday, September 18, when they travel to take on an NCAA Division I program, that of La Salle University, at 1:00 p.m. at Elizabethtown, Pa.
