Etown Individuals Compete at ITA Regional Championships

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- Elizabethtown tennis players competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Region Championships, hosted by the University of Mary Washington Saturday and Sunday, and did very well for themselves.

Etown entries went 12-8 in singles matches and 1-5 in doubles competition. In the Championship Draw bracket, Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) posted a first round win, and Emma Smith (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won a Championship Draw consolation bracket match.

In the “Blue Bracket” in singles, both Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) and Mel Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Caroline) advanced to the fourth round out of six. Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) made it to the third round in the “Blue Bracket,” and Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown), although losing in the opening “Blue Bracket” round, worked her way back through to the third round out of five in the “Blue” consolation bracket.

The only Etown doubles team to post a win was that of Lander and Smith, who advanced to the second round out of five in the doubles “Blue Bracket.”
