Elizabethtown Defeats Lebanon Valley 9-0 in Commonwealth Conference Semifinal; Blue Jays to Host Moravian in Conference Championship Saturday

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown came one step closer in its pursuit for its first conference title since 1995 Wednesday when the Blue Jays defeated Lebanon Valley 9-0 at home in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals. Etown, which improves to 12-0 overall with the win, will advance to host Moravian College, which defeated Susquehanna 6-3 in the other conference semifinal match Wednesday, in the Commonwealth Conference championship match Saturday, October 9 at a time to be determined. Lebanon Valley drops to 7-6 overall with the loss.

Etown began the day by winning all three doubles matches. At number one, Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) and Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) won 8-2. Emma Smith (Moorestown, PA/Moorestown) and Mel Parenteau (Marydel, MD/North Caroline) won 8-4 at number two, and Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) and Lisa Mervine (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) won number three doubles 8-4.

In singles, Shapiro posted a 7-5, 6-4 win at number one, Smith won 6-1, 6-3 at number two, Parenteau won 4-6, 6-2, (10-3) at number three, Lisa Abel (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) won 6-0, 6-2 at number four, Lander won 6-1, 6-0 at number five, and Trimbey won 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), (11-9) at number six to complete the sweep.

Parenteau now has 36 career singles victories, the second-highest total ever at Etown two shy of the Etown program record of 38. Both Abel and Trimbey moved into a tie for fourth place on Etown's career singles victory list with 32 each. Parenteau also moved into sole possession of second place on Etown's combined career singles and doubles victory list with 71. The Etown program record for combined singles and doubles wins in a career is 79.
