Blue Jay Women Open Day One of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- Members of the Elizabethtown College women's track and field team participated on the opening day of the 114th Penn Relay Carnival at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field on Thursday.

Senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) competed in the College Women's 10,000-meter run and finished 10th out of 27 runners with a time of 36:03.08, breaking her personal record by 40 seconds and improving upon her NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark.

"Erin ran a flawless race and executed the race strategy to perfection. Considering that she resumed regular training on April 5, we couldn't be happier with the outcome of this race," said head coach Chris Straub.

Fisher ran all of her mile splits in less than 5:50, with the sixth and final full mile her fastest at 5:43. Her 5k times were 18:06 and 17:56, and her overall time is within 17 seconds of the school record of 35:46.62 set in 2005 by All-American Melissa St. Clair.

Earlier in the day, the 4x400-meter relay team of graduate student Lori Havrilak (West Grove, PA/St. Mark's, DE) (61.3 seconds), junior Chelsea Miles (Media, PA/Penncrest) (62.4 seconds), senior Meghan Ryder (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) (64.9 seconds) and junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) (62.3 seconds) competed in the annual Centennial/MAC Relay and took fifth with a season-best time of 4:11.29.
