ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Elizabethtown Races to Combined Second Place Finish at Dickinson Long/Short Course Invitational
CARLISLE, Pa. --- After two weeks off, Elizabethtown College split its squad for the Dickinson College Long/Short Couse Invitational Saturday with one Blue Jay group running the 6000m long course and another Elizabethtown squad taking the 4000m short course. On the long course, the Etown squad finished third out of 17 teams with a score of 36. Dickinson won the long course race with a score of 14. On the short course, the Blue Jay team finished seventh out of 21 teams with a score of 70. Dickinson also won the short race with a score of 12. Out of the 11 schools that ran full squads in both races, Elizabethtown placed second with a combined score of 106. Dickinson won the combined meet with a score of 26.
On the 6000m long course, junior tri-captain Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) was the Blue Jays' top finisher, as she placed fourth out of 141 total finishers with a time of 23:06. Sophomore Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) came in 15th for Etown in 23:51 as the Blue Jays' number two runner on the day. Also finishing in the top 20 for Elizabethotwn was senior tri-captain Erin Deihl (Aaronsburg, PA/Penns Valley), who placed 19th overall in 24:02. Sophomore Samantha Jones (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg Area) came in 32nd for Etown as the Blue Jays' fourth finisher in 24:36, and senior tri-captain Tara Fagan (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) rounded out Etown's scorers in 35th place with a time of 24:42.
On the 4000m short course, sophomore Allison Rahtes (Coopersburg, PA/Palisades) was Elizabethtown's top finisher in 18th place out of 162 finishers with a time of 15:59. Also finishing in the top 25 for Etown was sophomore Amanda Daws (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford), who placed 25th in 16:10. Elizabethtown's top finishing first-year student on the short course was Megan VanDenHengel (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), who came in 27th with a time of 16:13 as the Blue Jays' number three runner. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, October 14 at the DeSales University Invitational. DeSales will serve as the host of the 2006 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships as well October 28.
