Erin Fisher Wins NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship, Blue Jays Finish Fourth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior Erin Fisher (McEwensville, PA/Warrior Run) won the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional women's cross country championship as the Blue Jays finished fourth out of 37 schools at the meet, held on the campus of Lehigh University on Saturday afternoon.

Fisher, who won her second straight Middle Atlantic Conference championship two weeks earlier, crossed the finish line in 21 minutes, 18 seconds to win by 12 seconds over Caitlin Bradley of Dickinson College and become the first Blue Jay to win the women's regional championship.

With the victory, Fisher will compete at next Saturday's NCAA Division III championships at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. Last year, she finished fifth at the regional meet and 67th at the national championships at Wilmington (Ohio) College.

Junior Tiffany Kulp (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) was 17th with a time of 22:34, first-year student Kristen O'Brien (Westminster, MD/Winters Mills) finished 28th in 22:47, and sophomore Megan VanDenHengel (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) took 34th in 22:58 to join Fisher as All-Mideast Region honorees.

Senior Sarah Grove (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin East) finished 67th in 23:43, junior Amanda Daws (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford) was 107th in 24:19 and sophomore Sarah Merusi (Montague, NJ/Port Jervis, NY) finished 109th in 24:21.

Dickinson won the team title with 53 points, and secured an automatic team berth at the NCAA championships along with runner-up Haverford College (110 points). Johns Hopkins University (138 points), Elizabethtown (141 points) and Allegheny (166 points) closed out the top five.
