Frank E. Mars is fourth generation Mars family. He is the son of John Franklyn Mars, Chairman of Mars, Inc., and the great-grandson of founder Frank Mars. Frank is the President of the Mars business segment Symbioscience located in Rockville, MD. He is a graduate of Yale University and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Frank is married to Susan Alleman Mars, a native of Elizabethtown, PA. Mars is the leading confectionery company in the world, with five, billion-dollar confectionery brands: M&M’s, Snickers, Dove, Mars, Extra and Orbit. Mars is also the world’s leading petcare company, with three, billion dollar petcare brands: Pedigree, Royal Canin and Whiskas. Their newest business segment, Symbioscience, is dedicated to developing innovative solutions to create sustainable supply chains with the aim of restoring balance to the global environment. Mars is one of the largest food manufacturers in the world. It is rated #6 on the Forbes America’s Largest Private Companies List with $30.7 billion in revenue and over 70,000 employees. The company operates six business units: Chocolate, Petcare, Wrigley, Food, Drinks, and Symbioscience. There are 130 factories operating in 75 countries with product sales in over 100 countries. Mars Inc. headquarters is located in McLean, VA. Mars is one of the world’s largest family owned corporations. Their private, family ownership is a deliberate choice which they feel enables them to achieve growth and prosperity through five basic principles: quality, responsibility, mutuality, efficiency and freedom. It is only recently that the company moved to non-family leadership. However, they continue to maintain ownership and oversight of the business through the board of directors.
