ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL
Etown Uses Second-Half Burst to Bury Dickinson, 93-66
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Looking at the final score alone, Etown's 93-66 win over Dickinson at home Monday night appeared to be easy. What actually happened in the game that improved Etown to 3-1 and dropped Dickinson to 1-3 was something else entirely.
Dickinson played a strong first half and actually led throughout much of the first half. At halftime, Elizabethtown's lead stood at a slim 46-40. It was only when the second half began and Etown went on a 16-2 run that the Blue Jays finally pulled away for good. Also, Etown committed 23 turnovers in the game, against 24 for Dickinson. Dickinson, which shot just 37.5% from the field in the second half, actually shot 64.0% in the first half.
In the end, Jon English (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Township) led Etown with 20 points, and he pulled down six rebounds. Chad Heller (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) added 15 points for Etown and led the Blue Jays with seven rebounds, and Brian Loftus (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) scored 13 points and led Etown with six assists and three steals.
Matt Keys was Dickinson's only double-digit scorer, totaling 11 points, and Jon Schwadron led Dickinson with six rebounds.
Elizabethtown will return to action at home Wednesday, December 4 against Commonwealth Conference rival Widener. It is Etown's last home game until January 6. Widener and Elizabethtown have met in the Commonwealth Conference championship game in each of the last two years.
